I’ll be in Detroit For a Bit

Friday, May 25th, 2007

So much going on these days! I will be in Detroit today until Wednesday. If you’re around, give me a call.

In brief news, I quit my job at BDNA and got a new one at Linden Lab. I went to the Maker Faire and the Bjork concert last weekend. I’ll write soon!

Internet Anonymity: Tor

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Unless you’re a security nerd (or paranoiac… wait, is there a difference?), you probably haven’t heard of Tor, The Onion-skin Router. Brought to us by the freedom-loving EFF, this program tries to do one-step better than a proxy: it actually randomly shuffles your packets around in its network so nobody can tell where they came from. It’s perfect for whistleblowing, government criticism, or keeping large corporations from building “psycographic profiles” of you. You can use it for more than web browsing as well - for instance, you can anonymize chat if you want to talk in a rape survivor chatroom.

Bouncy Castle in a Bar + Roxor

Friday, May 4th, 2007

There were a lot of concerts in San Francisco Wednesday last week: Air, Rufus Wainwright, The Decemberists, Junior Boys, Adult., and a few others. Some called it a “mini-Coachella” - and so Gabe threw a SonicLiving afterparty - with a bouncy castle. Good times.

I would show pix, but I still need a good photo manager program to (safely and transparently!) handle my gigs and gigs of photos. Trying F-Spot… don’t hold your breath, viewers.

Be My Pal On Second Life

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Hey! I’m on Second Life. I don’t have land, a cool avatar, or anything exciting just yet, but I’m on the grid. Check out my website for my avatar name, which I am proud of. I kinda wish I could just be Paul (and save the avatar for when I really need it). Anonymity by default doesn’t hurt too much, but it does tend to lead towards the greater internet fuckwad theory.

This Isn’t Working Out - Opening Up More

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Man, how do you bloggers do it? I try not to get too political, get too obscure, get too personal, get too nerdy, comment on anything at work or that I do all day, to write at work, and any of many other things. Know what happens? This blog gets seriously triflin on the double. This blog is already a chunk of effort, but I feel like it’s wasted by not going all the way.

I think it’s time for go big or GTFO. Will it work?
