All a mess!
I was just upgrading WordPress and noticed I haven’t said much in a while! Not for lack of anything going on, but it’s mostly been personal stuff and work stuff. Seeing as this is already a meta post, I’ll summarize for those following my stream that care (hello, facebook).
Most recent first, my sister is really sick. If you know her, send her some love. I just flew back from Michigan for a visit. If you need her info let me know. Recently enough before this we went to Phoenix to visit our cousins and I learned how hot that city is. If you live there, I don’t understand you.
As far as music, I went to coachella with my pal Gabe (of sonicliving.com fame, you should check the site and sign up so we can go to concerts together!) and saw Aphex Twin, Kraftwerk, Portishead, Prince, Chromeo, and Justice (just to name the headliners). I have a crazy story about crashing an afterparty, ask me about it sometime. More recently I went to the Download festival and enjoyed it (especially Cut / Copy) even though it looked to be really under-sold. I also saw People Under The Stairs and Jamie Lidell with James Pants who are really great live, and Midnight Juggernauts who despite having one of the best albums of the year really aren’t all that good live. (They really need electronic drums and another keyboardist to get that sound live - maybe next tour?) I’m also making music again, check out Judicious Hax for a DJ mix, I’ve got another I’ve been trying to finish up since March.
As far as work, I don’t have much to elaborate on past the official Second Life blog. Doing quite a bit of survey research on certain distributed computing issues, and looking hard at what we have and how to take it to the next level along with my lovely infrastructure compatriots. I wish I were smarter! PHP is irritating to me, so if you know anything about making that fast or less irritating, I’m all ears. And let me get it out of the way: yes, the answer is python. Ha ha. Now, anything more practical would be nice. In other subjects, the CMake branch is done and out there, and it seems most ppl like it once they get over the initial learning curve. If you’re having any issues, let us know!
Other misc personal details that I never blog about… I’m about to move, from lower haight to the mission. It’s an interesting living situation, too. I’ve learned that black licorice from the right place just plain rules. The new Jewish Contemporary Museum is pretty rad, the William Steig exhibit opened my eyes more to him. Bay to Breakers is the kind of thing that makes me happy to live here. I’ve otherwise made a ton of pals, and hope to make more in the near future. There’s plenty more in the inane detail dept. (and the too-personal dept. but I digress) so you’ll just have to ask me when you see me next. Until then!
