All a mess!
Saturday, July 26th, 2008I was just upgrading WordPress and noticed I haven’t said much in a while! Not for lack of anything going on, but it’s mostly been personal stuff and work stuff. Seeing as this is already a meta post, I’ll summarize for those following my stream that care (hello, facebook).
On becoming a punchline
Thursday, May 8th, 2008Please see exhibit A, Episode 3 of Oddistry, a video blog produced in part by my pal Chadrick who is evidently Valleywag’s mascot. As if I didn’t have enough ego gratification.
Ego Surfing Gratification
Wednesday, April 16th, 2008So I was just ego surfing and found a song written by Niko Donburi that has a line about my work persona, Poppy Linden. Woot! Here’s the song…
Quiet?
Tuesday, March 25th, 2008I’ve been busy, and my free time has mostly gone into the heap of busted that is all my computers. Few more weeks of that. Work is always busy.
Happy purim, easter, equinox, all that.
Unnecessary “Quotations”
Monday, December 24th, 2007So it’s the holidays, and cards pour in. My roommate has “family members” who like to “inappropriately” quote things in cards. (ie: with “love” to you).
Funny enough, I ran into The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks around the same time.
That’s “Uncanny”
Pippin died today

Second Life, CSI Style
Friday, November 9th, 2007A recent CSI:NY episode revolved around Second Life. Unlike your average CSI episode, there was no solution to the murders in the episode - you had to log into Virtual CSI: NY in SL to find out what happens next. I think the episode (show?) is cheesy, but a good opportunity to get into SL with a “goal”. If you have tried SL before and didn’t quite know what to do next, this might be worth trying for you. Likewise if you don’t understand why virtual worlds are going to be relevant for a long time coming. Trailer with a delicious quote from Gary Sinese after the jump…
Whats with all the posts?
Sunday, September 30th, 2007Cleaning out my half-written post queue. :) You should see some of the crap I’m deleting, whew!
Life vs. The Panopticon - “controlling your public appearance”
Sunday, September 30th, 2007Another article about “controlling your public appearance”. The article talks about google caches, and the new facebook privacy options for public profiles, and the general idea of the new all-seeing eye. That’s some positive education.
Help Me Lug Shit
Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007Hi everyone!
I’m moving to San Francisco this weekend with my roommate Sean, and I need some help. Last time I moved I didn’t ask for enough help and I damn near blew an O-ring, if you know what I mean, and I think you do.
I’m gonna need help loading in Sunnyvale, help driving stuff up, and help unloading in San Francisco. Food + beer will be graciously provided.
Can you help? Please write me back and let me know! Thanks!

New Job - Linden Lab!
Tuesday, July 31st, 2007Hi folks!
I don’t have a very good excuse for not updating earlier, but I got a job at Linden Lab makers of Second Life. A few of you know what that is, and the best way I’ve described it so far to folks is that it’s a 3D web browser where you can make and do anything. It’s a place to hang out like a chatroom (with bots, even), or its a place to play games, or it’s a place to listen to music, whatever you want. People even hold classes and meetings there.
There is a lot of hype (both positive and negative) about it, but regardless I am excited to be there.
All of this said, I do have to say this is my personal site and statements and material posted here do not necessarily reflect the position of my employer. I mostly pontificate about virtual worlds, etc. in private as not to bore my less technical readers, but if I do so here, it is not something I am doing professionally.
Also I should maybe get my alt name off of my front page? :\
meh.
I’ll be in Detroit For a Bit
Friday, May 25th, 2007So much going on these days! I will be in Detroit today until Wednesday. If you’re around, give me a call.
In brief news, I quit my job at BDNA and got a new one at Linden Lab. I went to the Maker Faire and the Bjork concert last weekend. I’ll write soon!
Bouncy Castle in a Bar + Roxor
Friday, May 4th, 2007There were a lot of concerts in San Francisco Wednesday last week: Air, Rufus Wainwright, The Decemberists, Junior Boys, Adult., and a few others. Some called it a “mini-Coachella” - and so Gabe threw a SonicLiving afterparty - with a bouncy castle. Good times.
I would show pix, but I still need a good photo manager program to (safely and transparently!) handle my gigs and gigs of photos. Trying F-Spot… don’t hold your breath, viewers.
This Isn’t Working Out - Opening Up More
Thursday, May 3rd, 2007Man, how do you bloggers do it? I try not to get too political, get too obscure, get too personal, get too nerdy, comment on anything at work or that I do all day, to write at work, and any of many other things. Know what happens? This blog gets seriously triflin on the double. This blog is already a chunk of effort, but I feel like it’s wasted by not going all the way.
I think it’s time for go big or GTFO. Will it work?
New Years Eve Eve - The Flaming Lips
Sunday, December 31st, 2006I was gonna write a long entry about our great day in San Francisco, about how pumped Rachel was to see The Flaming Lips, how great the hotel room her dad got for us was, but in the end I just need to get it out. We met Wayne Coyne, lead singer of the Flaming Lips outside the hotel.

Website Update
Sunday, December 3rd, 2006I’ve updated my website, pauloppenheim.com. Most notably, I have added a photo gallery which has the requisite cat picture:

I’m coming to Detroit
Thursday, October 19th, 2006… and if you have never been there, no comments about getting shot at or anything. Why am I going? A wedding! Will and Adrienne will share the last name Polumbo on Oct. 28th, and I’ma be one of their urshurs. I decided to hang around until Nov. 4th, so if you are around that week, let me know! I would love to visit you. I’m still working out a timeline, so get back to me quickly!
See you all soon!
What Keith Olbermann Has To Say About 9/11 Revisionism
Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006I am not normally a political commentator, but this article struck me. It’s in regards to the interview Bill Clinton had on Fox News.
A textbook definition of cowardice
